Septic tanks are usually made up of two to three compartments which allow a space on your property for waste to settle and form sludge, allowing an area for bacteria to work in a perfect environment. When a tank is in fully working condition, the liquids are able to drain away from an outlet pipe, down to a soak away, leaving just the crust and sludge behind. This can be then taken by a tanker to a certified drop-off point.
This is a similar process with cesspools, however all of the contents, including the liquids, are taken by a tanker.
When your tank is emptied, it will be completely emptied (depending on which model of tank you possess) and cleaned, as well as being assess, by a fully qualified septic tank engineer, to decide whether your tank is fully operational or not.
With time, septic tanks can deteriorate and with this, issues can occur.
It is recommended that you have your septic tank/cesspool emptied professionally every 12-18 months, but this can change depending on the size of the tank in which you have on your property. For any queries, please get in contact and we will be able to point you in the right direction on how this can be sorted for you.
